WFI: Our story

WFI have been around for over 100 years. And like the farmers, local businesses, regional towns and communities we serve, we’re still going strong.

It all started in 1919 when the Westralian Farmers Co-operative opened an Insurance Department to specifically cater to the unique insurance needs of WA’s farming community. Although there was only a small number of representatives, they managed to handle the entire agricultural area of WA.

We had the same philosophy back then that we do today – to make insurance personal. From day one, we’ve been visiting our clients on their farms, in their homes, at their businesses and in our offices. By getting to know our customers on a one-to-one basis, we’ve been able cater our products more specifically to their needs.

It’s no wonder, then, that in the 1980’s our insurance department became its own separate company. An expansion into South Australia, Victoria and Southern NSW shortly followed. And then with the acquisition of Federation Insurance, we finally went national.

In the early 2000’s, after acquiring Lumley General Insurance, we became known as WFI. From there, we grew even more. By the end of the 2000’s, WFI was a leading general insurer for farmers and small businesses.

Now, we’re backed by Australia’s largest general insurer, IAG. But we’re still the same local insurer you’ve come to know. We live in the same towns you do and know the way of the land, just like you.

We now have over 100 Local Area Managers who are ready to help you with your insurance. Give us a call, we’re always happy to have a chat.
